Kesa Gatame

The scarf hold, the first hold every judoka learns. Tori sits close beside uke, one arm round the head and the other trapping the near arm under their armpit, legs spread wide fore and aft for a base. The name is the diagonal of a monk's kesa, which is the line the body lies along.
